Xi’an City Wall

Also known as the Ming City Wall, the Xi’an City Wall is one of China’s most complete and largest surviving ancient city walls.

Built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (1370 AD), it was designed for defense against invasions. Constructed with rammed earth and brick, it remains remarkably well-preserved. The wall has four main gates: Changle Gate (East Gate), Yongning Gate (South Gate), Anding Gate (West Gate), and Anyuan Gate (North Gate), each serving both defensive and transport roles. The Xi’an City Wall stands as an enduring symbol of Xi’an’s history and a significant ancient military fortification. When you are in Xi’an city, enjoying this Xi’an City Wall bike tour provides a remarkable view of the ancient city’s layout.
